Central Gathering of Jewish Leadership to Begin this Sunday in Jerusalem

June 24, 2012 / 4 Tammuz 5772

Hundreds of Jewish community leaders and heads of organizations from Israel and abroad will participate in the Jewish Agency Assembly and Board of Governors meetings between June 24-27, along with the President of Israel, notable philanthropists and other prominent figures.

For the first time ever, the proceedings of the Assembly will be broadcast live from a Jewish Agency studio. A variety of topics will be explored, including:  security of Jewish communities around the world; the future of the Jewish People in the coming decades; the impact of the global economic crisis on Jewish communities; and new and old models of philanthropy.

The Jewish Agency Assembly and Board of Governors meetings will take place in Jerusalem from June 24-27 with the participation of some 400 leaders, representatives of Jewish communities and organizations from Israel and around the world, under the leadership of the Board of Governors Chairman, Mr. James Tisch, and Chairman of the Executive, Mr. Natan Sharansky.

Determining the organization’s strategies for meeting its overarching goal of securing the Jewish future for generations to come, the Assembly is The Jewish Agency’s most senior governing body.  The President of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres, government ministers, Members of Knesset, researchers, and experts from around the world, will speak at the Assembly, where proceedings will focus on the challenges faced by Israel and Diaspora Jewish communities, and The Jewish Agency’s responses.

Members of the Assembly will also visit key sites in Israel to explore the widening gaps in Israeli society and the opportunities for positive change these present to Jewish leadership.

The proceedings and commentary will be streamed live from a special studio constructed by The Jewish Agency, on site, at Jerusalem’s Inbal Hotel. The "Jewish People's Studio" will host central figures and experts who are on the front lines confronting the challenges facing the Jewish People and Israel.

Interview topics will include: security of Jewish communities around the world, anti-Semitism and delegitimization, co-existence of liberalism and Zionism, women in the Jewish world, Israel-Diaspora relations, and issues in the Russian-speaking Jewish world. The studio show will be moderated by several noted journalists.
