Many adolescents from the area toured abroad these last few weeks and returned filled with experiences and as the recipients of prizes. Fifteen athletes who participated in the “Maccabbi” games in Saint Paul’s won twenty-four medals! Another delegation of twenty-five adolescents went to visit Milwaukee, their partner community.
The participants of both delegations described the warm reception they received, and the importance the “Sovev Kinneret” Region holds in the hearts of the Jewish community involved with the Partnership 2000 project. The local leadership, the Mayor of Tibereas Zohar Oved, Chair of the Israeli Steering Committee, Mayor Motti Dotan of the Lower Galilee Regional Council, Mayor Yossi Vardi of the Jordan Valley Regional Council, came to a special meeting with the adolescents (pictured below) and blessed them as the “area ambassadors.”
According to Levana Caro Regev, Regional Director of the Sovev Kinneret Region for the Jewish Agency, “the summer’s activites represents the strengthening of the connection between the partnering communities in the area, a trend that will continue in the coming year.”
