The Kohl family, third and fourth generation donors for Israel and the Jewish Agency, recently visited Jewish Agency projects in Beer Sheva.
The Kohl family’s relationship with Jewish Agency projects began in the 1970s. Max and Mary Kohl, generous benefactors from the United States donated one million dollars via the Jewish Agency's Israel Education Fund to establish a comprehensive high school in Beer Sheva , which now bears their names. After their deaths, Max and Mary's descendents continued to keep in touch with the school and made charitable contributions responding to the school's various needs.
Daniel, a grandson, who as a child was present at the school's inauguration, recently visited Israel with his wife and three children as well as family friends. For most of the visitors, this was their first visit to Israel. Max's daughter and her husband, a former member of the Executive of the Jewish Agency, attended as well.
They visited the Nurit Absorption Center to learn about the Ethiopian immigrant absorption experience. Daniel committed himself to lending a hand in Ethiopian aliyah and absorption after participating in a mission to Ethiopia a number of months ago.

After speaking with Moshe Batta, the director, the group visited the ulpan, computer room, sports field, and met with immigrants. The visit culminated in the presentation of gifts to the Kohl family and friends. A book about Ethiopian aliyah was presented to Daniel Kohl on behalf of Jewish Agency Chairman Zeev Bielski. The children received Ethiopian embroidered bags and kippot.
Next on their itinerary was a visit to the Kohl high school where they were warmly greeted. The school prepared a full program for their guests, which included a special presentation about the school as well as a musical and dance performance. The Kohl family and friends enjoyed themselves immensely and were very moved by the event.
No doubt, Max and Mary's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will continue in the family tradition of active participation and involvement in Israel and Beer Sheva.
