Barbara and Lewis Klein, major contributors to Jewish Agency projects from Melbourne Australia, visited the Protected Living Center for the Elderly in East Talpiot Jerusalem on Sunday, August 19. After hearing a survey on the company's activities throughout Israel by Arik Eldar, deputy director general of the Amigour public housing company, Barbara and Lewis visited the apartment of one resident and heard her astounding story.
She was born in Palestine in 1928 to a prominent family of physicians. Her family moved to Germany, when she was only two years old, and a couple of years later with the rise of the Nazis, they were compelled to flee Germany. Their journey led them to the Soviet Union. It was here that the Amigour resident grew up, was educated, and became a professor of medicine. She immigrated to Israel in 1995 following in the footsteps of her children, returning to her birth place after 65 years.
Today she's very pleased to be living in the East Talpiot Center. Her entire family currently lives in Israel including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Masha, one of her grandchildren, is a moderator on the Russian language television channel -- Channel 9.
The Jewish Agency works diligently to provide Amigour’s residents a fulfilling life during their senior years. With your help, we can continue to provide funding and services to these vital programs and to transform the residents’ retirement years into their most enjoyable years.
