A Sparkling Visit

Stephen Silberfarb visits Sparks of Science Program at Hadassah Neurim

July 30, 2007 / 15 Av 5767

Stephen Silberfarb from Rhode Island visits the Jewish Agency's Sparks of Science camp at the Hadassah Neurim Youth Village.

The Executive Vice President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Rhode Island visited a number of Jewish Agency projects on Thursday, July 23.  In the morning, he visited the Hadassah Neurim Youth Village, where a camp is taking place for participants in the Sparks of Science program from the central and coastal plain region.

Stephen visited classes where studies are taking place in the camp framework and spoke with the children.  Among the campers whom he encountered was a girl who had participated in the NASA camp the previous summer in Turkey.  The children told Stephen about the great benefit that they derived from the Sparks of Science program in terms of enhancing their learning achievements and how glad they were to participate in a camp that combines studies with having a good time.

After touring Hadassah Neurim, Steve visited an absorption center for young immigrants in Kfar Saba, and met with students from the Kedma project.  One can sum up the tour of the projects as both successful and fruitful.

Sparks of Science is a unique informal education enrichment program for high school students of Ethiopian origin. The program was developed to provide equal educational opportunity for young Ethiopian Israelis, and ensure their successful integration in the fields of science and technology.
