Celebrating the Sigd Festival

December 3, 2008 / 6 Kislev 5769

The new Ethiopian immigrants residing at the Jewish Agency's Tzahal 9 Absorption Center in Safed, celebrated the Sigd Festival in glory and splendor.

The Sigd Festival is significant because it symbolizes the renewal of the link between the Torah and the Jewish people.

.

This year, the youth together with the national service volunteers of Garin Tzameret as well as the absorption center staff decided to prepare the ceremonies in Safed.

All the immigrants - close to 350 people - as well as guests were invited to the ceremony. The ceremony featured a choir, a Darbuka drum performance, dancing, and an amazing drama performance about aliyah that provoked tears.  A beautiful presentation about life in Ethiopia and cultural activity in the Safed absorption center capped a truly wonderful celebration.
