The satiric columnist began his journalistic career in Paris in 1948, where he worked for the Paris edition of the Herald Tribune. His articles were syndicated in many U.S. papers through the Washington Post Syndicate He published more then 20 books among them the autobiographical The Brave Coward (1957), Is It Safe to Drink the Water? (1962), And Then I Told the President (1965), and Have I Ever Lied to You? (1968). Buchwald won the Pulitzer prize for Commentary in 1982.
