Believe it or not, the Technion is the oldest institution of higher learning in the country. Although construction began in 1912, the outbreak of the war delayed the opening until February 10, 1925. At its inception there was a furious debate as to whether the language of instruction should be in Hebrew or German. The end of WWI settled the dispute. The Technion is world renown for Engineering, computers, and architecture. It is estimated that more then 70% of all Israel Engineers are Technion graduates.
