Scott, Sir Walter (1771 - 1832)

Sir Walter Scott, Scottish poet and novelist. His novel, Ivanhoe (1819), is set in 12th-century England, and introduces Isaac of York and the heroine, his daughter Rebecca. Rebecca was apparently inspired by Rebecca Gratz of Philadelphia, of whom Scott had heard. She expresses the wish of Jewish nationalism regretting "the sound of the trumpet wakes Judah no longer".
