Bar Ilan University, a religiously-oriented university is the third largest university in Israel, founded in 1955. Its first president was Dr. Pincahs Churgin of Yeshiva University. The university's five faculties - Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, and Jewish Studies are all highly regarded. Unique to Bar-Ilan are the Institute for Advanced Torah Studies and its counterpart Midrasha for Women.
