Felix Bloch (1905 - 1983)

    Felix Bloch

    Felix Bloch (Switzerland-USA) physicist and Nobel laureate. Bloch worked with both Bohr and Fermi. Bloch published papers on quantum theory, and on the electrical and magnetic properties of crystals. In 1940, with Luis D. Alvarez, he was the first to determine the magnetic moment of the neutron. During the war, he conducted research for the Department of Defense and returned to academia at Stanford University. Bloch was awarded the Nobel prize for physics in 1952.
