Samuel Alexander was the first Jew to be appointed to a college fellowship in a British university. Alexander, a noted philosopher, was the proponent of metaphysical realism detailed in his two volume work,
Space Time and Deity
. He was active in Anglo Jewish activities and a member of the academic council of Hebrew University. He received the order of Merit for his work.
