Joshua Solomon Soncino took over the initial printing house established by his father Israel Nathan. Soncino set up a Hebrew printing press which in 1484 produced its first book, the Talmud tractate Berakhot, with commentaries in the arrangement which became standard and is still used today. A Bible with vowels was printed with over 400 illustrations in 1488. In all, more than 130 Hebrew books were printed in various presses over the next 70 years. He was also the first to use frames for the first page along with ornamental letters for the titles.
