Moses Alexander was the first Jewish Governor of an American State. Alexander, born in Germany, began his political career as the Mayor of Chillicothe Missouri. He then became Mayor of Boise, Idaho before becoming Governor. He was active in the Jewish community as well helping found the first synagogue in Idaho. The town of Alexander, Idaho is named after him.
