Daniel Bomberg (c.1550)

    Daniel Bomberg

Pioneer printer - Despite his name, Daniel Bomber was not Jewish. The son of an Antwerpen Burgher, Cornelius von Bomberghen, he was shown the possibilities of printing Hebrew books from an apostate Jew, Felice da Prato, who had a license from the Pope. Moving to Vienna, he was able to obtain a similar license. In all, his printing house (1511-1548) published more then 200 books, including the first Mikraot Gedolot (1517) which combined the Pentateuch with many commentaries on the same page and which is still used today. Bomberg is also credited with the first complete printing on both the Babylonian Talmud and the Jerusalem Talmud (1523).

Score: 180. Very good! You win!
