Jonas Edward Salk (1914 - 1995)

    Jonas Edward Salk

    Jonas Edward Salk - biologist, epidemiologist and originator of the Salk poliomyelitis vaccine (1955). His work together with Albert Sabin, who later developed an oral vaccine, drove this paralyzing disease from much of the world. In recognition he received a Presidential Citation and the Congressional Medal for Distinguished Achievement.
