Otto Loewi (1873 - 1961)

    Otto Loewi

    Otto Loewi (Germany - USA), biochemist, pharmacologist. Lowie's discoveries of the chemical messengers in the transmission of nerve impulses earned him the Nobel Prize (1936). Imprisoned by the Nazis in 1938 he managed to get to the USA before the war, where he was appointed professor of pharmacology at the College of Medicine of New York University.
