Max M. Novich

    Although not a baseball player, Max Novitch was definitely a war hero. He was also very involved in sports. Novitch was an orthopedic surgeon and founded the Sports Injury Center at the Newark United Hospital and the Association of Ringside Physicians. He wrote more than 50 medical articles and three books on safety in contact sports. During WWII he requested transfer to an active unit and was sent to France. He fought until the end of the war earning the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Campaign Ribbon with Four Battle Stars, the Victory Medal, the Croix de Guerre and many other awards for bravery.
