Alexander, son of Aristobulus (d 48 ce)

    Camera Shy

Alexander, son of Aristobulus II, was actually the last one of the Last of the Hamoneans. Alexander was the son of Herod and Mariamne and educated together with his brother Aristobulus in Rome presumably to prepare him to take over as heir. Unfortunately, both brothers were constantly on the defensive being accused by various interested parties including Salome (Herod's daughter). Eventually, Herod's paranoia got the better of him and he ordered his sons strangled in Sebaste. Tiro, a captain in Herod's guard tried to plead for their release. A crime for which he suffered to share the same fate as the brothers.
