In what appears to be a tradition in the making, and a groundbreaking one at that, the Israeli members of the Partnership 2000 Steering Committee from Kiryat Gat, from Lachish and from Shafir have all made donations to the 2010 JUF annual campaign.
This is the second time that the committee members have done this after their visit in the fall of 2008 to Chicago, which introduced them to Federation and what JUF does around the world.
Discussions were initiated by the Israeli members of the committee, headed by Dan Harkabi, on how they – as Israelis – can help with JUF’s annual campaign. The group specifically did not want any of their own donations to be designated to Partnership 2000; they determined unanimously that they are part of Klal Yisrael (the Jewish people), and that they fully appreciate what JF/JUF is doing in trying to take a strategic approach to helping world Jewry.
"With our donation,” said Harkabi, “we hope to demonstrate a paradigm shift in the relations of Israel and the Diaspora. Our strength is as good as our ability to be ONE people. It is inspiring to see how the Jewish community of Chicago concentrates its effort in one major campaign led by the Jewish Federation. Thank you for your great support and for changing the lives of thousands of people in our region of Kiryat Gat, Shafir and Lachish."
Twice now, the members have made telephone solicitation calls from Israel to Chicagoans asking for donations, and this will again take place in January 2011 for the upcoming campaign.
As caring and involved volunteers to Partnership 2000, these individuals are clearly also dedicated to the overarching goals of JF/JUF. It’s great to have such wonderful people in the family.
