Chicago Hillels are setting pace for national recruitment efforts for Taglit-Birthright Israel. Nearly 350 students at University of Chicago (U of C), Northwestern University and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) have registered.

Although Birthright offers trips for young professionals, too, area college students signing up have the added boon of deepening existing friendships with fellow students. Another bonus is the visit to Chicago’s Partnership 2000 region in the Northern Negev, Kiryat Gat-Lachish-Shafir, where past participants have volunteered with elementary school students and at an archeological dig.
