We are deeply shaken by the younger generation's tendency to depart from the Torah lifestyle in hair-raisingly frightening proportions. They have no faith, no fear and no Torah; they hate the Almighty and his devout Jewish servants.
Heads of yeshivot, who have only their diligent students before them, console themselves by saying that while it is true that many have forsaken religious observance, there are many who continue observing Jewish tradition. However, they should look beyond their small domains and note the masses that have forsaken religious observance. The yeshivot that were once full of Torah students have emptied, with the students opting to join anti-religious associations. Craftsman and merchants, who - while not being Torah scholars - were at least faithful Jews, have likewise abandoned tradition. Should we, then, be content with the miniscule number of students attending our yeshivot? What about Am Yisrael as a whole?
