Chovat Hatalmidim: Message to Teachers and Parents (38)

The teachings of the Kabbalah (Pardes) relate how different colors and shades may have their influence up above. A person who desires to arouse mercy should dress in white, whilst red induces vigor, etc. So, too, continue the Kabbalistic teachings, a person's physical actions influence his spirit, and gradually his very soul, leading the soul to reach the ultimate heights.

That is the essence of Hasidism, namely that a person should sense excitement in even the simple things that he does; this excitement - even it is purely physical - will awaken the soul and help it climb up to spiritual heights.
