Chovat Hatalmidim: Message to Teachers and Parents (39)

What distinguishes the mature Hasid from his fledgling counterpart is the ability to further lift his soul immediately as he engages in physical activity such as eating and drinking with his colleagues. Similarly, in the Beit Hamikdash the Kohen used a physical object (candle) to light the wicks of the menorah, but the igniting fire jumped up from the wicks without physical contact with the candle.

Even though there may be no apparent spiritual expression when children engage in physical activities, a mark, slender as it may be, is impressed upon the spirit - and this, too, is important. When a child is excited by the activity surrounding Pesach cleaning, by candles lit and tables set exquisitely for the Holiday, the physical excitement likewise influences the soul, and grows all the more so when all gather to recite the Haggada - even though there is much that he does not comprehend.
