Run by ELEM - YOUTH IN DISTRESS IN ISRAEL
Youth Futures in Tiberias hosted trustees from Beit Shean in a one-day training seminar run by ELEM. We learned about behavioral and personal attributes of at-risk children and were introduced to typical processes for working with children.
Testing
Currently, the last of the children are being tested at the Nitzan Association. In order to make the testing more effective, we're coordinating with Nitzan and working to organize a workshop for trustees to give them a basic understanding of terms used in testing. Some of the children have been registered for remedial instruction at Nitzan; the goal is to provide them will tools for correct learning, with special emphasis on weaker areas pinpointed by the testing.
Regional Day Seminar
Numerous representatives and professional staffs from Beit Shean and the Beit Shean Valley Regional Council took part in a regional day seminar conducted by Pat Hilborn and Gerald Ford. The day opened with a group activity in which all of the professional staffs had to assemble a puzzle. As Pat describes: "In the same way we didn't know what picture we'd end up with when we began putting the puzzle together, that's the way it is when we work with children." We continued with an in-depth discussion on the topics of dealing with parents, parental responsibility, and others.
